Book Earlier for Building Inspections

27 August 2018

There’s plenty of building work going on in the Mackenzie District and the Council is streamlining its timeframes for building inspections accordingly.

“There’s significant growth in building, particularly in commercial development in Tekapo and residential development in Twizel. This means the Council is receiving more requests than usual for building inspections,” says Council’s Group Manager Regulations, Karina Morrow.

“It’s great to see positive growth and there’s some really exciting projects coming to fruition. However, this also puts additional pressure on our building team,” Ms Morrow said.

During this period of higher demand, builders would need to book in building inspections 3 to 5 days in advance, rather than 1-2 days ahead as has been usual practice.

“This three to five-day timeframe is still very reasonable and puts us on a par with most other Councils. It means we can still provide the best possible service. This change will help us get through this busy period without the need to employ additional staff at a cost to ratepayers,” Ms Morrow said.
