Mackenzie District Appoints Animal Control/Freedom Camping Contractor
A fulltime contractor has been employed by the Mackenzie District Council to help manage the expected significant influx of visitors to Twizel and Tekapo over the coming summer.
"We are expecting a busy summer season, and this always brings an increase in issues relating to dogs, noise and camping. It makes good sense to employ someone over this period to help manage these issues," says Council Group Manager Regulations Ms Karina Morrow.
The contractor will undertake dog control responsibilities, warden duties at responsible camping sites and respond to noise complaints.
"We'd also like to remind people that enquiries or complaints around these issues need to be directed to Council on 03-685 9010 (including after hours) to ensure they are recorded and dealt with appropriately," Ms Morrow says.
Extra facilities such as toilets will be installed in places across the district. These areas will also be patrolled regularly to ensure people are using the facilities responsibly, Ms Morrow says.
