Nominations Slow for Mackenzie District Council

8 August 2019

With just over one week of the four week nomination period remaining, only 1 nomination has been submitted to the Mackenzie District Council Electoral Officer, Anthony Morton to fill the 19 positions currently available. [Refer for details]

"Most candidates tend to leave lodging their nominations until the last ten days, so the slow start wasn't unexpected. We're expecting a busy last week, so we'd like those intending to stand to submit their nominations as soon as possible to allow time to check the paperwork and correct any problems found" Mr Morton said.

An information handbook and nomination forms are available from the council office or from the Mackenzie District Council website, or by phoning the election helpline number 0800 300 052. To stand, candidates must be over 18, a New Zealand citizen, enrolled as a parliamentary elector and pay a $200 deposit for each position they want to stand for.

The nomination period closes at midday on Friday 16 August 2019. A list of the confirmed candidates will be advertised as soon as possible following the close of nominations.
